Too Sick to Receive Guests
The Villagers’ Fair
An old couple lived in a quiet village. One day, the villagers decided to hold a fortnight-long fair around their temple. Announcements were made, and excitement filled the air.
Fear of Relatives
As the time for the fair approached, the couple became increasingly anxious. They were misers at heart and dreaded the thought of distant relatives visiting the fair and staying as guests in their home.
A Pretend Illness
As fate would have it, they spotted two relatives making their way toward the fair. In a panic, they quickly lay down on their beds, pretending to be ill.
Anxiety from Concern
In the evening, the relatives arrived, intending to spend the night at the couple’s home. However, upon seeing the couple’s condition, they felt uneasy and decided to leave. Concerned for their well-being, they sent word to other relatives, urging them to visit the couple, as this might be their last chance to see them.
An Unwelcome Surprise
Two days later, the couple found themselves with ten anxious visitors from distant places. The guests were relieved to see that the old couple had recovered. However, with the fair still in full swing, the visitors decided to stay for an entire week to enjoy the festivities.
