The Wrong Choice
Jagan was a burglar who had practiced his trade for many years. However, one fateful day, he was caught and severely beaten, which left him unable to run quickly or climb high walls. As a result, he gave up burglary and moved to a distant town with his only child, a daughter.
A Return to Old Habits
Years passed, and boredom set in for Jagan. He decided to resume his life of crime, but this time he needed an assistant. One day, he came across a small group of street acrobats. Among them was a clever teenager who could jump great distances with the help of a pole and balance himself skillfully on it.
The Right Assistant?
Jagan believed that the boy would make an excellent partner in crime. To bind them further, he arranged for the boy to marry his daughter and welcomed him into his home. One night, Jagan took the boy to a wealthy merchant’s mansion and instructed him to scale the wall.
A Complicated Plan
“To scale the wall, I first need a pole. Additionally, my father must beat the drum, my uncle must whistle, and two or three people must shout and clap their hands,” the boy explained.
