The Recommendation
Once upon a time, a king found himself in need of a bodyguard. This bodyguard needed to be both strong and intelligent to successfully protect the king and the kingdom.
One day, the general sent a candidate to the minister along with a letter of recommendation. In his letter, the general detailed the candidate’s impressive history as a brave man. At the end of the letter, he requested that this candidate be considered for the position.
The minister took the man before the king and read the general’s letter aloud. After listening to the glowing recommendation, the king raised an eyebrow and spoke thoughtfully.
“If everything stated about this man is true,” the king said, “then the general would have had no reason to request my consideration. Therefore, I suspect that all these claims may not be true.” With that, the king’s doubts cast a shadow over the general’s endorsement.
