The Multi Purpose Donation
The villagers of Kumarpet decided to build a temple and formed a committee led by Ram Singh, the astrologer, and Vishnu Roy, the veterinary doctor. They gathered donations from all the families but never approached Jagat Pradhan, the richest man in the village, known for being extremely miserly.
One day, Ram Singh and Vishnu Roy unexpectedly came face to face with Jagat. After exchanging greetings, Ram Singh mentioned, “Jagat, we are building a temple.” To their surprise, Jagat responded with enthusiasm, “That is what we should do! Can I help in any way?”
“Of course, you can! Should we meet you at your home?” Ram asked. Jagat replied, “Please do so!” When they arrived at his house, Jagat welcomed them warmly but expressed concern over his cow, which had developed a boil in its right ear. Vishnu immediately examined the cow, prescribed a remedy, and assured Jagat, “It will be cured in three days!”
On their way back, Ram remarked, “So, brother, he saved ten rupees by consulting us together and paid five rupees to each of us while taking pride in donating to the temple fund!” The two friends laughed heartily at Jagat’s penny-pinching ways.
