The Evil Perish by Their Deed

The innocence of the doves shatters as deceit lurks in the shadows, captured in this watercolor scene of betrayal and sorrow.

There once lived two doves in a nest atop a huge tree. They led a quiet and peaceful life, cherishing their time together. Everything seemed idyllic until one fateful day when the darkness below them stirred.

In a hollow at the base of the tree lived a snake who could not tolerate the sight of the two happy doves. He constantly looked for the right opportunity to ruin their happiness. One day, the female dove laid two eggs, and when the doves ventured out to search for food, the snake slithered up the tree and pushed the eggs out of the nest.

Upon their return, the doves saw their nest empty and were heartbroken. The female dove began to sob, and it was then that she noticed the snake, who had slithered out from his hollow. Distraught, she asked, “O my friend, I’m ruined! My eggs have been destroyed. You have been here all day. Did you see or hear any strange creature prowling around? What could have happened to my eggs?”

The snake, feigning sympathy, was relieved that they didn’t suspect him of the wrongdoing. Wanting to shift the blame before the doves caught on to his misdeeds, he responded, “I saw our neighbor, the kite, leaving your nest a little while ago. He had your eggs in his beak. When he saw me, he claimed to despise you so much that he wanted to crush your eggs. I tried to stop him, but alas! What could I do? He is stronger than I.”
