The Bully’s Fate
The army of Alexander the Great invaded Thebes, causing chaos as his soldiers ran amok, plundering the houses of wealthy citizens.
Among them was a captain, known for his bullying nature, who entered a house where a lady lived alone. He insulted her and demanded she surrender all her money and precious belongings.
Not satisfied with his initial gains, the captain threatened to kill her if she did not reveal where she kept more hidden wealth. In desperation, the lady showed him a deep well.
As the captain leaned over to look into the well, she seized the opportunity and pushed him. The bully tumbled down, meeting his death at the bottom.
Two soldiers arrived at the scene moments later and seized the lady. They deemed her crime so grave that they were unsure how to punish her. They decided to bring her before their king.
However, when Alexander heard the full story, he not only freed the lady but also restored all her wealth, recognizing her bravery in the face of tyranny.
