The Black Mark

A son was born to a couple, and they noticed a peculiar black mark on the left side of the child’s forehead.

“This mark indicates that our son will become a king. So says my granny,” declared the proud mother.

“But I heard from our family astrologer that such marks indicate a scholarly career!” the equally proud father countered.

Both parents engaged in a heated argument, with the wife insisting that her granny was wiser than the astrologer, while the husband maintained that the astrologer held more knowledge.

Just then, an illiterate beggar approached them, asking for alms. As the couple glanced at him, they noticed a similar black mark on his forehead. In that moment, they fell silent.
