The Accurate Portrait

“In the heart of Rohitpur, creativity knows no bounds as three artists discover the unexpected paths to success and friendship.”

The landlord of Rohitpur wanted to appoint a principal for the art academy he had founded. Three artists applied for the post: Kishan, Kumar, and Suman. To select the best candidate, the landlord appointed a committee of three well-known men from the area.

During the interview, the committee asked the three candidates to paint any object of their choice within an hour. Once the time was up, the paintings were collected, and the committee sat down to judge who was the best artist. Ultimately, their verdict favored Suman.

Later, when the three artists met in a canteen, Kishan and Kumar congratulated Suman on his success. “It was a surprising outcome!” commented Kishan. Suman, with a smug grin, replied, “Well, I was a bit clever!”

“How?” asked the curious friends. Suman explained, “You two drew pictures of a horse and a cow. No matter how accurately you draw such objects, one can always find some fault by comparing them with the real things. That is exactly what the committee did with your pictures. However, I drew the portrait of a ghost! Obviously, no member of the committee was in a position to find fault with that!”

Suman laughed and added, “My friends, I did not truly merit selection any better than you two. I simply took a different approach!” The conversation sparked a realization among the artists about the nature of creativity and the infinite possibilities that exist within the realm of art.
