Raji—The Great Hero

The valor and wisdom of Raji unite the realms of gods and men, a moment of triumph against a backdrop of rich South Indian heritage.

Raji was the grandson of King Pururavas. During his time, there was no one among the gods or demons, let alone men, who could match his courage and battlecraft.

As a battle was about to commence between the gods and demons, the gods approached Brahma and asked, “What do you foresee to be the outcome of the battle?”

“Whichever side enlists Raji’s support will emerge victorious,” replied the great God.

News of Brahma’s prophecy leaked out, prompting the demons to approach Raji and request him to lead their army. “Will you make me your king if you triumph?” Raji asked.

However, the demons could not agree to this condition as they had a commitment to Prahlada, who was to be their king. Thus, they left disappointed.

The gods, recognizing Raji’s unmatched prowess, agreed to his terms and appointed him as their general. Raji fought valiantly, leading them to a hard-fought victory.

After the battle, Indra, the king of the gods, bowed to Raji and said, “Like a father protecting his children, you’ve protected us!”

In response, Raji smiled benevolently and said, “Since you view me as your father, I will let you continue as the king of the gods. It is for a son to inherit his father’s position or glory, not for a father to assume his son’s position or glory.”
