Overnight Achievement

Three thieves were released from prison one evening after serving their terms. As winter approached, they found themselves with nowhere to go and decided to lie down on the prison verandah.

The Kotwal’s house stood opposite the prison. Noticing the three men shivering in the cold, even in their sleep, he graciously brought out three blankets, tossing one over each of them to keep them warm.

At midnight, the Kotwal observed that the thief on the extreme left had cunningly deprived the other two of their blankets, using all three himself. However, as he fell asleep, the thief in the middle took advantage of the situation and stole all three blankets for himself. By morning, it was revealed that the thief on the extreme right had claimed all the blankets for himself.

Upon witnessing the unfolding drama, the Kotwal shouted to the jail guards, “Throw the fellows back into prison! Each has earned another prison term overnight!”
