I Have Not Lost My Job
A Corrupt Official
In a certain king’s court, an official faced numerous charges against him. After investigating these allegations, the king decided to dismiss the corrupt official from his service.
Adjusting to New Circumstances
While in service, the official enjoyed lavish meals prepared by his chef. His table was always adorned with a sumptuous feast, which included two kinds of fish, two kinds of soup, and meat. However, after losing his job, the official realized he needed to cut down on his expenses. He instructed the chef to prepare only one fish and one portion of each dish.
The Surprise Revelation
At the end of the month, the official was astonished to find that his expenses had not decreased; they remained the same. Curious, he went into the kitchen and discovered that the chef had prepared two of everything: two kinds of fish, soup, and meat. Furious, he called the chef and demanded to know why he was deceiving him.
The Chef’s Response
The chef calmly replied, “I have not yet lost my job. So, I prepare two of everything for myself. For you, it’s one of everything because you no longer have a job.”
