Condition Fulfilled
The wealthy Dinesh Sawoo was known for cheating his servants out of their dues. He considered himself clever and consistently devised new ways to serve his mean purpose.
When the young Bhim entered his employment, Sawoo told him, “I will pay you your salary at the end of the month only if you have done everything I have asked you to do.”
Bhim agreed to the condition and worked hard throughout the month. However, on the last day, Sawoo presented him with two glasses: one larger than the other. He then said, “I ask you to put the bigger glass inside the smaller one!”
Without hesitation, Bhim let the larger glass fall to the ground, shattering it into pieces. He then gathered the shards and placed them in the smaller glass.
Fuming with anger, Sawoo shouted, “Pay me the price of the glass!” But Bhim refused to listen. The matter was escalated to the village judge.
“Sir, I had to either break the glass to fulfill my master’s request or consider him insane. I chose the first option,” Bhim explained.
The judge agreed, stating, “You are justified. After all, Sawoo did not specify that the bigger glass had to remain intact. If he had, it would have made his request unreasonable.”
Consequently, Sawoo had no choice but to pay Bhim his salary.
