A New Job for Fatty Vinayak
Fatty Vinayak was merrily strolling down the road, toying with the twenty-five paise coin in his pocket. As the evening cast long shadows on the trail, nightfall soon ensued, compelling Fatty to halt his journey. Despite his reluctance, he realized he had to find a place for the night.
The Unexpected Encounter
At that moment, Fatty noticed a group of merchants returning from the market, money in their hands. As they approached Fatty, one of the men suggested they halt and spend the night in the tree to guard against the bandits rumored to lurk nearby. Agreeing on this proposition, the unsuspecting merchants encountered Fatty. Following a brief exchange, they instructed Fatty to keep watch underneath the tree, to signal them should any robbers arrive. Nodding in understanding, Fatty obliged as the men climbed the tree to retire for the night, their snoring soon complementing the nightsey chorus.
The Midnight Incident
Later at midnight, a gang of robbers came wandering by their way. One tripped over Fatty’s plump hand, mistaking it for a piece of dead wood, alerting Fatty. Taken aback by this insult, Fatty rose and revealed his presence and the coin he possessed. Surprised, the robbers demanded Fatty to hand over his coin, threatening to harm him otherwise. Their declaration of being robbers sent Fatty’s body into a jelly-like quiver. In a fit of rage, Fatty blurted out that the coin was a dud and directed the robbers to the traders up in the tree for confirmation.
The Unexpected Turn of Events
Realizing the presence of potential loots, the robbers rushed to the tree robbing the merchants. As they were preparing to leave, they noticed Fatty once again and offered him to join their gang. Amused, Fatty Vinayak followed the robbers, for they had offered him a new job, soon after his last one.
