A Clever Plan
The Invasion Begins
Once, the king of Rockfort invaded the territories of his enemy. At the same time, the king of Redfort seized this opportunity and invaded Rockfort. The kingdom was left vulnerable, as all of Rockfort’s soldiers had marched off with their king. Only a few elderly retainers remained, some of whom were veterans of numerous wars. Among them was an old warrior named Virmalla, who devised a plan to defend the fort.
The Clever Deception
According to Virmalla’s plan, the streets of Rockfort were well decorated. A few old warriors, dressed in their finest attire, were stationed at the gates of the fort.
Confrontation at the Gates
When the king of Redfort rode up to the gates of Rockfort, Virmalla bowed before him and said, “Enter, Your Majesty. The fort is yours.”
Redfort’s King Reacts
The suspicious king halted his troops and contemplated Virmalla’s words. A crafty smile slowly spread across his face. He wagged his finger in Virmalla’s face and retorted, “Ah, you think I don’t see through your game. You want us all to enter the fort and then trap us. No way: we are not entering.”
A Strategic Retreat
With that, he turned his horse around and galloped back home, abandoning his plan to invade Rockfort.
