A Certificate with a Difference
A certain king decided to employ a physician in every village of his kingdom. Those who presented a certificate from any of the well-known teachers of Ayurveda would secure the job.
Subahu, a ruffian, approached a famous teacher and demanded a certificate.
“I don’t give a certificate to anyone unless they have studied Ayurveda under me,” the teacher replied firmly.
In response, Subahu brandished a dagger and threatened the teacher’s life. Reluctantly, the teacher wrote: “Subahu, through years of toil, has qualified himself for the post of a physician.”
Upon reading the certificate, the king remarked, “Generally, a teacher specifies that a candidate has studied for six years, as that is the length of the course. Why has the time been left vague in your case? Either you were a very poor student, or there is some mystery surrounding it.”
Subahu attempted to slip away unnoticed, but the king detained him and initiated an investigation. Ultimately, the truth was uncovered, and Subahu was sent to prison.
