The Beggar and the Beggar

A poignant encounter between wisdom and royalty—a scene of reflection and realization in the heart of a South Indian jungle, capturing the essence of ‘The Wise Fakir.’

The Wise Fakir

In a jungle lived a wise fakir. Many people came to seek his advice and blessings, prompting him to consider building a shelter for visitors.

An Unexpected Approach

Instead of raising funds from his admirers, the fakir decided to approach the nawab directly and request the entire amount necessary for the construction.

The Nawab’s Palace

Upon reaching the nawab’s palace, the fakir found him in the prayer hall. The servants welcomed the fakir and offered him a place to sit near the prayer hall.

A Change of Heart

However, suddenly the fakir rose to leave. Shortly after, the nawab exited the prayer hall and sent a servant to summon him back.

Realization of Irony

“Why were you leaving before meeting me, holy man?” asked the nawab.

The fakir responded, “I had come to beg of you. But I overheard you begging God, ‘Give me more wealth! Give me more land!’ I realized that you too are a beggar. How can I beg from a beggar?”
