To Please the Deity

“In Sompur, faith meets deception as a greedy priest manipulates devotion, leading the villagers to seek a new guardian for their temple under the sun-drenched skies.”

Building the Temple

The people of Sompur built a temple and hired a priest to perform the rituals for their deity. This sacred place became a focal point for community devotion and worship.

The Greedy Priest

The priest, however, was a greedy individual who recognized the villagers’ deep devotion. He devised a plan to take advantage of their faith and extract personal gains from them.

The False Revelation

One day, the priest failed to show up for his duties at the temple. Late in the afternoon, the village leaders gathered to investigate the matter.

When questioned, the priest claimed, “Last night, the deity appeared before me and said that He did not want His priest to be poorly dressed. To please the deity, I must wear silk and adorn myself with a gold chain. This is the deity’s instruction.”

Taking Action

The villagers convened a meeting to discuss the priest’s outrageous demand. After careful consideration, they decided to appoint a wealthy Brahmin as their new priest. This Brahmin was known for wearing silk dhotis and always had a gold chain to flaunt!
