The Mali’s Money Was Safe!
The Encounter
Poor Bholaram worked diligently as a mali in the garden of a crooked landlord. The landlord’s son mirrored his father’s deceitful nature. One evening, while Bholaram tended to the garden, a childhood friend approached him and said, “Your mother-in-law, before passing away, gave me this bag containing her lifetime savings. She instructed me to hand it over to you.”
The Hidden Treasure
Curious, Bholaram opened the bag and discovered a substantial amount of money inside. Excited about the possibilities this fortune could bring, he decided to return to his village to open a shop. He carefully concealed the bag in the hollow of a banyan tree, planning to retrieve it the next morning.
The Deception
However, the landlord’s son, who had witnessed Bholaram’s actions, stealthily stole the bag and presented it to his father as if he had found it. “I found this bag in the garden!” he exclaimed.
The Disappointment
The next morning, Bholaram took leave of the landlord and set off for his village. Later that evening, the landlord appeared troubled and restless. His son inquired, “What is the matter?”
“I cannot find that bag,” replied the landlord, looking anxious.
“Where had you kept it?” his son asked.
“In the hollow of the banyan tree,” replied the father.
