Reason for Action
A rich man had a clever dog. One day, while a farmer was on his way to the field with a shovel in hand, the dog rushed at him, trying to bite his leg. In self-defense, the farmer delivered a swift blow to the dog’s mouth with his shovel. The dog lost a tooth and slunk away, injured.
The dog’s owner soon complained to the headman of the village about the injury sustained by his dog. He was clearly upset about the incident.
“I had to do it to save myself,” explained the farmer, standing his ground.
“But why did you aim for the dog’s mouth? You could have hit his tail instead!” protested the dog owner, seeking to justify his dog’s action.
“The fact is, the dog was about to use his mouth on me, not his tail!” answered the farmer calmly.
The one who found the farmer’s response the funniest was, surprisingly, the owner of the dog himself, who couldn’t help but laugh at the situation.
