No One the Loser

“Compassion in Action: A Community Comes Together to Help a Needy Man in Distress”

A man walked along the road carrying a basket on his head, searching the shops to decide where to sell his wares. Unfortunately, he was careless and tripped, causing everything in the basket to fall and shatter. The contents were glass tumblers and bowls. “Poor man!” the bystanders and passersby pitied him.

One of the onlookers stepped forward. “His master will surely make good the loss by cutting his salary. Let me help him by giving him my mite,” he remarked. He then offered the man a rupee.

Many others followed suit, contributing whatever they could spare. Some gave him a rupee, while others offered more or even small change. The man gratefully collected their generosity. “That’s good,” one bystander commented. “You can buy some tumblers and bowls now. You won’t suffer any loss. By the way, who’s your master?” he asked curiously.

“Didn’t you see someone giving me a rupee first?” the man replied. “He’s my master. He didn’t lose anything by giving me a rupee, and I, too, haven’t lost anything.”
