His Birth Mark
King Krishna Deva had a black spot on his right hand since birth, which he considered a good omen. Some astrologers in the kingdom learned of this and visited him under various pretenses, insisting that his birthmark was the reason for his reign. This flattery delighted Krishna Deva, and he rewarded these astrologers generously. However, his minister, Deva Gowda, saw through their manipulation and felt pity for the king.
One day, an astrologer from a neighboring kingdom passed through and, intrigued by Krishna Deva’s unique birthmark, requested to see it. The king welcomed him with due respect. When the astrologer expressed his interest, the king proudly revealed the spot on his right hand. The astrologer studied it intently and exclaimed, “Sire, it is true you owe your position to your birthmark! A larger black spot in the same location would have made you nothing less than an emperor!”
Deva Gowda recognized the astrologer’s flattery and called one of the guards at the door to show his own right hand to the king and the astrologer. They were shocked to see that the guard had a larger black spot. The astrologer’s face fell in shame, realizing his empty praise had been exposed.
From that moment on, the king no longer placed blind faith in astrologers, understanding that true destiny is not dictated by marks on the body.
