Who Had More Logic?

The moment of courage: Vijay Sharma confronts the king, challenging the logic of life and death in a grand palace courtyard.

In days gone by, there was a king who always acted according to his whims. However, he continuously claimed that he made decisions based on logic. One day, he fell ill, and his illness lingered for a long time. In his desperation, he declared, “Whoever can cure me will receive a portion of my kingdom. But whoever tries and fails will lose his head. This is quite logical!”

Two or three physicians attempted to cure the king, but none succeeded. As a result, the king ordered their beheading. Amid this turmoil, a physician named Vijay Sharma approached the king with a bold proposition. “My lord,” he said, “I accept your challenge. If I cannot cure you in a week, you may take my head. But if I succeed, I will take yours!”

“What!” the king exclaimed, shocked by the audacity of the proposal. Vijay replied, “My lord, I am only being logical. If failing to cure you costs me my life, why should you not face the same consequence if I succeed? If the physicians are safe, then the common people who depend on them for treatment will also be safe. That is the second logic…”

“Enough! Please treat me. I will not take your head, even if you fail,” the king finally said, conceding to the physician’s reasoning. He then freed the other physicians who were waiting to meet their grim fate, realizing the importance of both their lives and the cautious logic presented by Vijay Sharma.
