The Worthy Son

“Legacy in Tension: Ram Das stands as a beacon of hope while Bipin struggles under the weight of his father’s shadow, set against the vibrant backdrop of South India’s rich landscape.”

Guru Das and Vepa Das were wealthy landlords. Guru Das was a good-natured man, while Vepa Das was known for his cruelty and violence. For no reason, he would beat up innocent people. His son, Bipin, disliked his father’s behavior, but felt powerless to change it.

When Guru Das passed away, his son, Ram Das, took charge of the estates. The people proclaimed, “Ram Das is a worthy son of his father.” This positive image stood in stark contrast to Vepa Das’s reputation.

Vepa Das called his son Bipin and declared, “After my death, people should say that you are my worthy son.” Agreeing, Bipin left the house that very day and went to the local impoverished area, where he began to beat some people over trivial matters.

As passersby observed Bipin’s actions, they remarked, “This chap is the worthy son of his father.” The gossip quickly reached Vepa Das’s ears, prompting him to realize the implications of his son’s actions.

Upon understanding the situation, Vepa Das reflected on his ways and decided to change his approach. The influence of legacy and the desire for a better reputation moved him to reconsider his behavior and its impact on his son.
