Privately!

In the face of jealousy, composure reveals the truth amidst deceit aboard a South Indian vessel.

Once, a nobleman was traveling on a ship. A fellow passenger, envious of his status, devised a plan to discredit him among the other travelers.

This jealous individual placed a hundred mohurs in a green bag and approached the nobleman, asking him to keep it in his safe custody. The nobleman willingly agreed to take care of it.

Next, the man met the ship’s captain and falsely claimed that his green bag filled with a hundred mohurs had gone missing. “I suspect one of the passengers has stolen it,” he whispered discreetly.

Without informing the other passengers, the captain initiated a search of their cabins and luggage. However, he spared the nobleman, whom he held in high regard.

“Why don’t you search him?” the jealous man suggested to the captain in a hushed tone.

Overhearing this exchange, the nobleman requested the captain to search his cabin. The captain complied reluctantly, but to no avail—the missing bag was never found.

That night, the jealous man confronted the nobleman privately, asking, “Where is my bag?”

The nobleman replied slyly, “Just as you left it with me and complained to the captain, I have thrown it into the sea. Now, allow me to advise you: be sensible and keep quiet, or you may be thought mad!”
